I use the Volhard Temperament Test to test my puppies. This test should be administered at 7 weeks, in a strange area and with strangers.
One person administering the test and another writing the conclusions.
The test is administered in an area that is unknown to the puppies. We went to a small grassy area near our home.
Some of the exercises are to have the puppy react to a noise, or to an umbrella being opened near them. They are also tested to see if they will retrieve an object or follow a person.
This gives me, as the breeder, a good idea of what each puppy will be like as they age. I will say, that each has similarities and definite differences in their temperaments. For the most part, this breed are playful and energetic. They each responded well to being pet and placed on their backs.
This test also assists me in determining which puppy should be placed with potential puppy buyers in regards to their lifestyle and personalities.
