Champion Portuguese Water Dogs purposely bred with temperament, health, and adaptability in mind.
The Riptide Portuguese Water Dog is a robust, medium-size dog. PWDs have a non-shedding curly or wavy coat. They are naturally exuberant and highly intelligent dogs. This breed may be mouthy (nipping and using their mouths as a way of initiating contact with their human) as puppies. Like all puppies, they need proper positive training. The Riptide PWD may be inclined to make their own decisions. With proper training, good behavior is reinforced and undesirable behavior may be deterred.
Rumour was my Foundation Bitch out of Caladesi Portuguese Water Dogs. She has been and continues to be a delight to own and now breed. She was an excellent show and performance dog, and family dog. She is the foundation to my own breeding program with Riptide.
Riptide’s Breeding Program began with Rumour. As my Foundation Bitch she was my most important purchase. She, “dictate[s] the success or failure of [my] breeding program” according to William Given, of The Canine Chronicle in his article, “Building on a Solid Foundation”.
He goes on to write that this bitch is so vital because,
Her influence on her breed is softer and takes significantly longer to evaluate than that of a stud dog. It is also true that she will likely never achieve the fame and glory of a dog that can be used at stud while simultaneously carrying on with a brilliant show career.
And finally, as I develop my kennel and my line of dogs, this beginning pillar to my kennel described by Given, “. . . will be the one that gives [me] [my] winners, [my] best advertising, and keeps reproducing herself year after year. She is the one that gives your line its own particular look.”
For more information regarding my Breeding Program for Riptide, I have provided a detailed page that you may see what decisions are made every step of the way to a successful litter of adorable, sound, energetic portuguese water dog puppies.

Rumour Has It (Rumour)
The cornerstone of my breeding lineage is a remarkable female from Caladesi Portuguese Water Dogs. She’s been an absolute joy to have as both a pet and a breeder. With outstanding success in the show ring and in performance events as well as being an incredible family pet, she forms the bedrock of my breeding endeavors with Riptide.

Riptide’s California Dreamin’ (Cali)
Cali is out of dam/sire pair CH Caladesi’s Rumour Has It CGC (Rumour) & Silver GCH CH Seaworthy’s Plan of Attack CGC AWD AOM AOE (Patton).
Cali is out of the Aquarius Litter, born February 2020. She is a black with white front blaze and legs. Cali swims every day, multiple times a day. She is such a loving and playful pup. We have been working with her training in many areas to include: conformation (displayed in the image above), dock diving, obedience, agility, and just being accustomed to the life of a water dog!
She is ready to take a day out of the pool and jump in to the world of dog sports. She has taken to Disc Dog sports like a natural.
Riptide’s Belle of the Ball (Ellie)
I have chosen Riptide’s Belle of the Ball (Ellie) to focus on for conformation, as she is able to live very near to me, allowing me to see to her training. I do hope that those families that brought her litter mates in to their homes will also seriously consider working with their dogs in a variety of activities. It is such a rewarding adventure.
This week (Dec. 14th, 2021) marks the beginning of Ellie’s show career with the AKC. I chose her because she is an excellent example of the breed standard. Her temperament is also fantastic, allowing her to be shown in the conformation ring with great success.
Ellie’s First Official Win Picture
She began her show career at the Orlando shows. She placed second in her class under different judges. This is a nod to her consistency of breed type. At only six months of age, she performed beautifully with handler Piper Mahoney. This show is a huge event, thousands of dogs under one roof, it is pretty noisy, and very busy, and Ellie handled it like a pro. If anything, she was too friendly.
Riptide’s Sail Away With Me (Sailor)
Riptide’s Sail Away With Me (Sailor) is out of the Elite Litter from December 2022: Dam CH Rumor Has It (Rumor) CGC TK and GCH Aguas De Seda Beaming Moonlit Seas CGC (Beamer).
This weekend (April 29-30, 2023) marks the beginning of Sailor’s show career with the AKC. She too is an excellent example of the breed standard. Her temperament is fantastic, allowing her to be shown in the conformation ring with great success.
