I bred this litter, the Aquarius litter, after a great deal of time went in to researching pretty much everything I could, speaking to breeders of PWDs, showing Rumour and completing her championship title with AKC, health testing, preparing my home to be puppy friendly, you name it, I did it. Luckily, all of that attention to detail made my first breeding experience at Riptide Portuguese Water Dogs amazingly successful and well, easy. Rumour was a great mom, the puppies were beautiful, and I have to say, that my dream of being a PWD breeder has been everything I hoped for.

From the litter, I decided to keep one of the bitches. This is a common practice for breeders. We require breeding stock to further our line. Actually, that is the intent of the AKC Conformation events, to display breeding stock to further preserve the lines of specific breeds of dogs.

I love the Portuguese Water Dog breed. They have a colorful past and have been brought back basically from near extinction. I am so honored to be a part of that campaign. With Rumour and now Cali, aka Riptide’s California Dreaming, I feel that I am well on my way preserving a breed that is well worth the effort.
